I am Wathiq, the proud owner and manager of The Confident Barbershop. As a Master Level Barber with over 20 years of international expertise cultivated across three continents, I bring a unique fusion of precision craftsmanship, deep client understanding, and proven business acumen to every appointment.
1990s
My journey began in my hometown of Baghdad, Iraq during the late 1990s, where I mastered foundational barbering techniques while pursuing higher education. I earned my business degree from the Institute of Administration Al-Rusafa, establishing dual pillars of artistic skill and entrepreneurial knowledge. This period taught me that true mastery lies not just in technical skill, but in understanding the unique style and needs of every individual who sits in my chair.
2000s
Seeking new horizons, I dedicated 15 years to the insurance industry in Bahrain, Qatar and UAE. This corporate chapter refined my client service philosophy, attention to detail, and professional standards – competencies that directly translate to creating tailored, premium grooming experiences today.
2015
When I moved to the great United States in 2015, it marked a turning point in my life. After 15 years in the insurance industry, I chose to dive back into barbering. I spent four years moving from one barbershop to another, working in about three or four different shops. This hands-on experience allowed me to study the market, understand our customers deeply, and gather as much knowledge as possible. All of that prepared me to create The Confident Barbershop exactly the way I envisioned it.
2020s
Since this is the last speech that I will give as President, I think it’s fitting to leave one final thought, an observation about a country which I love. It was stated best in a letter I received not long ago. A man wrote me and said: `You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk, or a Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live in America and become an American.”

When the pandemic struck, it brought immense challenges for everyone. For me, it was a defining moment of courage and transformation. I made the decision to rise above the uncertainty and open The Confident Barbershop, delivering the best grooming experience and exceptional customer service when it was needed most. And beyond just a standard in-and-out service, my goal was to redefine the barbershop experience into something truly exceptional and high-end. In facing that adversity, we built something special that goes far beyond the ordinary.
